Saucer Magnolia

Magnolia Soulangeana

 Often chosen as an ornamental specimen, the large, pink, and white, tulip shaped flowers make this one of the most beautiful flowering trees in the spring. They prefer moist soil and full sun. They have large, broad and smooth silvery gray bark,  dark green leaves and smooth silvery gray bark.    

There are around 80 species of magnolia all around the world in Asia, the Caribbean, Central, North, and South America. Songbirds use magnolias for shelter and as a food source. Squirrels, opossum, quail, wild turkeys, and deer will eat the leaves, barks, and twigs of the tree. Beetles are attracted to flowers.

Magnolias have leaves that tend to be dark green in color. they have large cup-shaped flowers that vary in color and bloom in the spring. Magnolias do not produce nectar and are typically pollinated by beetles.

They are mainly used as landscape trees and shrubs. They are best planted in a sheltered location to avoid wind damage. They are not drought tolerant.
